Inspirational Ironman

As promised by the Fat To Fit Radio Show...

Inspirational Ironman

In October 2008, David Bullock was as a youth pastor in Peoria, Ill. He started to notice his vision and his energy rapidly declining. Doctors first thought David had cancer and possible tumors on his brain. Blood work came back and revealed his diagnosis was Myasthenia Gravis. Myasthenia Gravis, is a very rare neuromuscular disorder. Myasthenia Gravis is caused by a breakdown in the normal communication between nerves and muscles. There is no cure for Myasthenia Gravis, but treatment can help relieve signs and symptoms. David was put on a high dosage of prednisone for 2 years and also underwent a thymectomy. The surgery however did not help David's symptoms. He went to a delegation for his students when he finally decided towards the end to ask the lead speaker to pray for him. The preacher prayed for him and while he was praying for him David felt his chest burning hot like it was on fire. After he returned to Mobile he continued to pray. He went back to the hospital only to learn when his blood work came back it was negative. The nurse said she couldn't explain it but he no longer had the disease. David was completely elated and came off of his medicine slowly. Three years later he is medication free and symptom free. David never thought it would be possible to do an Ironman and figured he would spend the rest of his life on medication maintaining the disease. In 2014, he competed in his first half Ironman and just recently he completed his second full Ironman. However, it wasn't easy he went into shock on mile 10 and had to stop and get electrolytes for 40 minutes before he could return to running. He finished the Ironman fives minutes before the cut off time. David's story is truly inspiring. We were lucky enough to have him come on the Fat to Fit Radio Show this week and want to thank him for coming on, and congratulate him on becoming an Ironman! David is inspiration to others to never give up hope!
